Simon Keeleyside
|
After leaving The Royal College of Art in 2002, Simon Keenleyside won the prestigious BOC Award. Sir Peter Blake, who was chairman of the judges summed up the excitement of the panel: "What struck us was their sense of contrast. Simon's paintings have a light and a serious message. These are paintings to enjoy, intrigue and draw us into another world. This is what stole our attention." By allowing the materiality of the paint to become the image, Keenleyside builds up the surface until the painting stops describing the landscape and becomes a landscape in itself.
