Yto Barrada
|
Yto Barrada (b. 1971) lives and works in Tangier. Her photographs, films, publications, installations and sculptures focus on the everyday life and landscape of Tangier, her hometown situated on the Strait of Gibraltar. This photograph was included in her first solo show at Pace Gallery London, Mobilier Urbain. The exhibition included a selection of work that examined the relationship between unchecked urban development, the botanical landscape, and the subtle forms of resistance against the forces of monoculture. Yto Barrada was Deutsche Bank’s ‘Artist of the Year 2012’. Recent exhibitions include the 2011 Venice Biennale, Jeu de Paume, Paris, Haus der Kunst, Munich, the MOMA, NY and Tate Modern, London.
