Caramazza
Filippo Caramazza graduated from the Royal College of Art in London 2008 and in 2010 exhibited at the Hales Gallery ‘The Flutes of Impossible Shepards’ show. The Astronomer by Caramazza is one of his small but detailed oil on aluminium ‘postcards’ which disassembles and reassembles old masterpieces to create new ones. Caramazza isn’t afraid to imitate these great masters, recreating paintings based on those by Guercino and Vermeer amongst others. Caramazza uses these masterpieces in his work in different ways. Some are beautifully painted still life of props, others are trompe l’oeil of studio walls with blu tack and some become folded, obtuse canvas.
