Polly Apfelbaum
|
Polly Apfelbaum creates what she calls "fallen paintings", hybrid works that exist in an ambivalent space between painting, sculpture, and installation. Apfelbaum is known for her vibrant palette of eye-popping colours and her work encourages the audience to not only think about, but also to experience the pleasure of aesthetics. Her work is strongly influenced by fashion colours and design and her interests range from popular culture, feminism, and post war abstract painting. Yet, ‘Lover’s Leap Black’ could be seen as a digression away from colour, a rarer example of a flower painting in black and white.
