Cecily Brown
|
Cecily Brown’s erotic, painterly work draws imagery from diverse range of sources, from the painting of the great abstract expressionists such as Wilhelm de Kooning and Francis Bacon, to pornographic magazines, comic books and Hollywood movies. There is a certain degree of turmoil and disturbance in Brown's work. The paint on her canvases roils with tension and energy as the viewer is gradually absorbed into the imagery.
Cecily Brown was born in London in 1969 and currently lives and works in New York. She has been represented by Gagosian Gallery since 1999 and has been credited as a central figure in the resurgence of painting at the turn of the millennium.
