One of the most distinctive voices in British contemporary photography, John Riddy’s photographs capture the individuality and poetry of certain places. His subject matter is broad – ranging from the domestic interior to images of Renaissance or Modernist architecture. This work is from the series 'Low Relief: Photographs of London' and was taken outside the Garrick Club at night. All the works from this series are characterised by a stillness, a rigorous formalism and a preoccupation with texture and surface.
John Riddy (b. 1959 Northampton) has work in important collections such as the V&A, the Tate and the Government Art Collection. 'London(Garrick)' is included in the Tate Collection and was featured in 'Romantics', a group exhibition at Tate Britain from 2010-2011.
