b.1975 lives and works in New York, grand daughter to Alice Neel. Neel describes her work as having a relationship to the visual world, relating to something that exists or might exist rather than a transcendent mental state. Prevalent themes in Neel’s work include birth, life and death which she suggests may be influenced by her upbringing on a farm. What is interesting about her work is that she takes inspiration from other painters including Cezanne and Velazquez; she says “every painting I make is a reference to every painting made before.”
