b.1937 in Indiana William T. Wiley lives and works in California. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York amongst others. Wiley’s work is layered with ambiguous ideas and allusions, autobiographical narrative, self-deprecating humour, and socio-political commentary. His style is unique and each work is thoughtful with a serious meaning behind it. ‘Equestrian’ is created using aquatint to create the velvety black form of the horse, the light wash background is evocative of the desert heat.
