Lucy Levene is a rising star of people photography. Graduating in 2001, she has already featured at the Hereford photography festival, the Schweppes Portrait Award and has been selected for the book ‘Re-Generation – 50 photographers of tomorrow’. Her work goes beyond conventional portraiture, revealing layers of meaning in pose and gesture. In the Nightclub Documentary series Levene treats her subjects with an uncanny sense for realistic representation – always staying well shy of photo-documentation – Levene probes her own class and generation with an acute attention to detail and anthropology, but always with sensitivity for the situation.
