The English artist Marc Quinn was one of the first artists represented by Jay Jopling, and was exhibited in the defining Sensation exhibition of 1997. These vivid, surreal landscapes preserve the fragile and unexpected beauty of a winter flower garden in its prime, forever. In this immortal garden the limitations of death and decay are overcome. These images are a snapshot of an unnatural landscape, an unnatural reality transforming the finite nature of life into infinity. The composition of exotic and domestic plants, including asparagus tips and blood red roses sprouting surreally out of a blanket of soft white snow, is both stunning and sickly in its excess.
