Markus Raetz b.1941 is a sculptor and conceptual artist who lives and works in Bern, Switzerland. His art is often described as being about issues of reality and illusion. ‘Gaze’ is a tranquil aquatint of an “invented” seascape seemingly viewed through binoculars. The bands of light are outlined by this shape; it is where your ‘gaze’ is directed. Raetz enjoys visual puns in his work turning one image into another and switching between abstraction and something recognisable.
