Jim Lambie’s work is loaded with references, often metaphorical or ironic, to popular culture, art history and music. Working with items immediately to hand, as well as those sourced in second-hand and hardware stores, he resurrects record decks, speakers, clothing, accessories, doors and mirrors to make striking and colourful installations, sculptures and assemblages.
Jim Lambie (b. 1964, Glasgow) has exhibited worldwide including at the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art; the Hara Museum, Tokyo; the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington DC. In 2003, he represented Scotland at the 50th Venice Biennale and in 2005, was nominated for the Turner Prize with an installation entitled Mental Oyster.
