Agnieszka Kurant's practice is concerned with the hybrid status of objects. She investigates how fiction and rumors influence the social, economic and political structures of contemporary society. Map of Phantom Islands is a map of the world constructed from fictional islands - all other continents were removed creating a map of imaginary territories. All of these islands were believed to exist at one point in history and were gradually eradicated from maps, but many of them continued to be included until 1943.
